intro - about this blog...

Well, a site dedicated to the ancient district of Galata, once the European Quarter of the city of Istanbul - formerly Byzantium then Constantinople...

What's on the site: Articles, photographs, archive documents, plans, maps and interviews... etc... relating to Galata
When was the site started: in the year 2000 following the "renovation" (read, destruction) of a historic building in Galata square we decided to start formerly observing and recording district and it's evolution...
Who are we ?: Two long time residents with a deep interest in and love for the district.
What's next: we plan to slowly expand the site as we collate and upload our existing archives. We would also like to host materials from anyone interested in contributing.
We need : a greek translator. Anyone who can translate our text to Greek , we would love to hear from you.
